The chairman and ranking minority member of the House judiciary committee today asked the government to withdraw subpoenas issued to two San Francisco Chronicle reporters whose testimony is sought in the Balco steriod scandal. Committee Chairman U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., told a gathering of the American Society of Newspaper Editors that he and U.S. Rep. Tom Davis had made the request in a letter to U.S. Atty. Gen. Alberto R. Gonzales.

"The subpoenas issued to those reporters and their newspaper seeing confidential source information are troubling both on the specific facts of their case and bcause of the great damage they could cause to our nation's press nad the First Amendment," the letter, provided by Conyers, said. "We call on your to withdraw the subpoenas issued to the San Francisco Chronicle and its reporters, Mark Fainaru-Wada and Lance Williams."

Conyers also said he also expects bipartisan support in the new Congress "for a federal law which undergirds freedom of the press." He was not specific.

Conyers spoke to a gathering of about 120 editors and journalists at the National Press Club organized to consider the increase in the number of subpoenas issued to reporters to reveal confidential sources.

Citizen Journalism in NH Conyers, Hall ask Bush administrat

Bill, et al;

Thought you might like to see the kind of "citizen journalism" going on in
NH as the presidential candidates line-up for our "first-in-the-nation"
Presidential Primary. I was not able to attend, but the report follows:

Regards,

Herb Moyer
Exeter, NH

Good for you Roger!
And good for all those who were able to be asking Senator Dodd questions
today.......more tomorrow, I hope at three other NH locations!

Just to share more info....(the other part of bird-dogging).... today I was
in Dover at Webster Tarpley's lecture at the Dover Friends
Meetinghouse.....BTW, it was PACKED there with over 100 folks! AND Webster
ended his lecture/slide show with a live broadcast to the Texas radio
station (which airs his program every Saturday evening from 5-7pm) about the
activities held in Dover today including the report from people present who
participated in bird-dogging Dodd! Talk about thrilling! NH was in the
news bigtime!!! Hey, we're just patriots doing our job!

You can hear Webster & others from the group present today talk about the
events by tuning into your computer to hear the broadcast at this link....he
hosts what's called 'World Crisis Radio' on www.RBNLive.com and it was live
from Dover Friends Meetinghouse! Enough to make Quakers in Texas do a bit
of quaking......I'm an attender, so don't get bent out of shape by this!

We had sent two people (our first of the 'Truth Squads') over to the town
meeting being held in Dover (held a short distance from the Friends
Meetinghouse) to ask Dodd about opening an independent investigation into
9/11....AND both people were able to get in their questioning.

WHAT OPPORTUNITIES we have here in NH, folks! DO NOT GIVE UP!
(PLUS, tomorrow people have another opportunity to start again on these
important issues.) We have more personal access to these candidates than
anyone else in the US........or even people do in our own
government/lobbyists who bribe/pay favors to have an 'audience' with these
clowns.

Of course, as you might imagine, the 'answers' were not there, as Dodd said
that he 'didn't know about 9/11' (ya, right, 5 years out!) BUT our two
individuals were undaunted in their attempts to bring up this issue.....talk
about a dose of REALITY! Each person situated themselves in opposite places
in the room, and honestly did not know each other until this day as they are
from 2 separate states, and asked their questions at different times.....one
question from a MA guy was what Dodd planned to do about 9/11 when firmly
more that 1/3 of Americans do not believe the 'official report of the 9/11
Commission'? The other question posed from a DJ from the Keene State radio
station was how did Building #7 in NYC come down when it wasn't hit by a
plane, only had small fires in the building, Rudy was told to get out, but
not others; and the building fell at almost free fall speed into its own
footprint? ....simple, direct, questions that indicate people have done
their homework, and what are you....Candidate #___....going to do about
this?!

If WE don't bring up these issues, then no one else will.........bring your
camera phones, & get these questions/'answers' onto youtube right away when
you get home, and begin by spreading these little clips which won't be
played in the MSM, but will be broadcast over our award winner of 'Person of
the Year....US ON YOUTUBE'/internet access or community access TV!
Guaranteed instant viewership about these issues. So let's use it...WE
become the media/WE ARE the media.

BTW, all of Webster's slide show today was taped and will be shared this way
as soon as it can be done, hopefully after Bushie's 'State of the Union' on
Tuesday evening and before the BIG march in DC on Sat. Jan. 27. (BTW, did
you know that UNH already has a bus load of 35 UNH students and MANY more
who are on a waiting list to go down to DC...they're getting fired up!!!
All of you old enough to remember the ol 'Nam days, you'll remember that's
what we did so many years ago....Thank the Lord!!!)

ALSO if you are in for NOT staying in bed until 'THE GAME' tomorrow, anyone
interested in going over to Newburyport, MA tomorrow (Sunday- 1:30pm)to
participate in the teach-in on impeachment of Bush and Cheney, below is the
info on what will be a stimulating & informative time. (I'm leaving from
Amherst around 11:30am tomorrow) Also Webster will be there sharing
information....and has he got lots to share! It blew me away with his
articulation, history, humor, and the grand overview of what is happening
before our eyes....as well as picking NH as the place to bird-dog candidates
with ISSUES because of our access. (Tom Hayden said the same thing from NH
Priorities teach-in about bird-dogging!) Announcement & directions below.
Time to get into gear,
