Art,
Can you tell me what technology is being used by your students for
reading the ebooks? My sense is that what people have been concerned about
isn't so much ebooks, qua the storing and retrieving of books
electronically, so much as about the tool used as the ebook reader.
A $350 device, whose only apparent usefulness is to read ebooks seems to
be what is questioned. If I can read an ebook on a laptop, a PDA, or even
some good multipurpose MP3 player, why would I want Sony's eBook reader?
If I were to read ebooks, right now, I would chose to read them on my
laptop. If I were to spend around $350, I would probably get the Nokia 770
that Robin mentioned and read my ebooks there.
To me, the Sony PRS 500, sounds a little bit too much not like a flying
car, but more like this decade's WebTV.
