A "media accountability conference" featuring presentations by more than 20
journalists and writers whose work made the 2007 list of the nation's
most-under-reported stories compiled by Project Censored is scheduled for Nov.
3-4, 2006, at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, Calif., north of San
Francisco. The even begins Friday afternoon and ends Saturday night. Peter
Phillips, Project Censored director (MGP2006 participant) is a key organizer of
the conference, which costs $70, or $50 for students. To register online go
to: http://www.projectcensored.org/conference/ or call (707) 664-3166. Among
topics to be covered by the speakers are: why the media needs to act as a
consumer watchdog, views of the military-industrial complex, covering
fresh-water issues, declining accountability and transparency in government,
corporate conflict-of-interest and misdeeds, global economic coverage, and
post-911 war-information suppression.
