Journalism without the influence of commercial advertising might be a
good thing. This might push the development of more independent
journalism, maybe dependent upon citizen members. See the NewStandard

(although they are not local)
I think it is absolutely true that not only advertisers but also
audiences are moving more towards media tools and services over news
organizations. Devises like cellphones and social networking sites
like Facebook.com are also posed to offer local advertising in a big
way. They've already started.
