To MGP alumni:
Michael Stoll (mstoll at public-press.org) sends along this advisory. You can call in to participate or just listen.
Dear Friends,
A handful of journalists, fundraisers, nonprofit organizers, technologists and designers are gathering in San Francisco on Saturday, Feb. 9, to brainstorm ideas relating to a push for a new public-media venture in or around San Francisco, tentatively called The Public Press. It would be a daily multimedia collaboration among noncommercial journalism and research institutions that produces a Web site, a print newspaper and multimedia content. It would rely on reader and philanthropic support instead of advertising. We're looking to complete a business plan and market study that would allow us to start a fund-raising campaign to produce a pilot edition later this year.
DATE: Saturday, Feb. 9
TIME: 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Pacific
IN PERSON: Come to our North Beach headquarters, 300 Broadway (at Sansome), Suite 25, San Francisco. Please RSVP because we have limited space.
BY PHONE: Dial into the conference call at 11:15 a.m. Pacific (2:15 p.m. Eastern). Call 641-715-3200, access code: 132888#. The call will not last as long as the meeting (probably half an hour), but this will give you a good introduction to what we're trying to accomplish and give you an idea about how you can get involved from afar.
